Migrating from GroupWise to Exchange

When migrating from GroupWise to Exchange/O365 Retain has some helpful features you should know about.

This is not going to talk about creating users in AD/Exchange or copying their messages, contacts and calendar items either. GWAVA has a separate product for that called Migration ToolKit.

One last job

Before shutting down your GroupWise server you will want to do one last full dredge of the post office(s). To make sure you have all messages on a post office you would create a new profile let's call it "All messages" or you can reuse your "Initial Dredge" job. Under Scope/Date Range to Scan select "All Messages (Ignore Date)" and under Duplicate Check select "Try to publish all messages (SLOW)"

Then run the job. That profile will have Retain request all messages from the post office. It will take some time since it is the same as an initial dredge. It will try to get everything, but Retain will check to see if it has it already has that message and not save it if it does.

Before setting up Exchange Module

You will want to have your users set up in Exchange/O365 either by hand, with Migration Toolkit or some other tool.

Now you enable mailbox mapping with the settings of your choice.

Set up Exchange Module

Now set up the Exchange Module.

Now refresh the Address book and users should be able to switch between their Retain mailboxes.

Run a job to dredge messages into Retain from Exchange.
