The count provides valuable data on population trends on species. Data from 2,300 "count circles" are used for research. The circles focus on specific geographical areas. Locally the Adams County circle centers on Orrtanna; the York County count radiates from Codorus State Park. Counters are volunteers and it is free of charges.
