The Message header filter searches the header of the MIME file. Create filters in this section to target variables in the header of the MIME file (email).

Level 1

Message header filters are meant to search through the header of the MIME file to find its criteria even if they are hidden from client view.

When setting up the message filter:

  - Actions - You will select the actions that you want GWAVA to take (Block, Quarantine)
  - Notes - Add notes to remind or inform administrators what the filter is for and/or why it was entered.
  - Notify - set up notifications for sender, recipient, administrator or defined addresses

Level 2

It is possible for "SPAM" to be altered to hide cetain things from front line/cosmetic view. In cases like this a simple subject or body message may not find the trigger for the filter that has been setup. This is where MIME filtering comes in. The header filter will scan the MIME header for the trigger that has been setup. In general these filters are not needed but the option is there for quick response to special email that is designed to get around standard SPAM scanning procedures.

When adding a single message filter.

  - Click the New filter button - This opens a separate dialog box that will allow you to enter the "trigger' that you desire.
  - Actions - Set if you would like to block, quarantine, or block and quarantine messages that contain the trigger you have entered.
  - Notes - Add notes or leave blank. This is for internal use and not required to complete the filter entry.
  - Notify - Notification will let the configured address know that there was an event that triggered your Raw message filter.
    - Recipient - Will notify the intended recipient of the mail that the message was blocked.
    - Sender - This will send a notification email to the sender stating that their message was blocked due to this filter.
    - Administrator - This will send a notification email to the GWAVA administrator's email address informing them that there was a message blocked due to this filter.
    - Defined addresses - You can specify any address you would like to receive an email notification that a message was blocked.

Entering multiple filters at once is the same concept. Each filter entered when using the Multi-line import will all have the same actions, Notes, and notifications. If you want each one to have different actions, etc you will need to go back and edit them manually one by one.

  - Click the Multi-line import button.
  - Add a list of all the filters you want entered.
  - Select the settings for the Actions, Notes, and Notify (each filter entered in the list will have the same settings).
