====Log Filename and Location====
Retain creates an auditing record of all actions, specified by the user, which are taken on a specific piece of mail. This record is stored in the Audit table within the Retain database as opposed to other logging that Retain components do to actual log files in text formatAuditing records can be removed automatically after a specified length of time. The variable is set in days.
The system log is named RetainServer.[yyyy]-[mm]-[dd].log for the current day's log.

This logging option creates very detailed logs for the options selected, and it is very important to know that if every option is turned on, the log can become extremely large. It is highly recommended that an expiration date is set for the logs, so that they are automatically removed from the system to avoid filling up your disk space. Selecting all options for logging will affect performance, so that should be kept in mind when choosing options.
All of the options are self explanatory; however, many questions arise in regards to the "Audited" optionWhen this is checked, every action in the "Audit" screen in the RetainServer interface is recorded.

[edit] Logging

Support recommends setting the logging level to “Diagnostic” for troubleshooting purposes. It requires more disk space, but 20G should be more than sufficient to handle the default number of log retention days.

You also specify how long to keep logs. By default, logs are deleted after 10 days. Logs may be compressed to save disk space.

[edit] Log Filename and Location

The system log is named RetainServer.[yyyy]-[mm]-[dd].log for the current day's log.

The logs are found in different locations depending upon the Retain Server's operating system:

Linux
Their location will depend upon the option chosen during installation:
 • /opt/beginfinite/retain/tomcat[n]/logs (where "n" is the Tomcat version).
 • /var/log/retain-tomcat[n]/ (where "n" is the Tomcat version).
Windows
 • [drive]:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat[n]\logs (where "n" is the Tomcat version).
 • The drive letter will be the drive on which Apache Tomcat was initially installed.
