Restoring A Limited Amount Of A User's Email or Other Items

Prerequisite:

  • A Restore Area must be defined
  • Have the User logged into GroupWise Client

Resolution:

  1. In the Reload Web Console enable access to a backup that the user's deleted mail is known to be in.
  2. Log into the GroupWise client as the user and go to File/Open Backup.
  3. Find the email that needs to be restored.
  4. Select the item(s), right-click and select Restore
  5. Return to the online mode and make sure that the items restored correctly.

Restoring a User's Folder

Prerequisite:

  • A Restore Area must be defined
  • Have the User logged into GroupWise Client

Issue If you attempt to Restore a Folder like restoring an email you will get a D107 record not found error.

Resolution:

  1. In the Reload Web Console enable access to a backup that the user's deleted mail is known to be in.
  2. Choose how to restore the items
    • Restore the items in the folder individually as above or
    • Restore all items as below and tell the user that more items will be restored (this is often the faster method)

Restoring All User's Email and Other Items

Prerequisite:

  • A Restore Area must be defined
  • Have the User's Password

Resolution:

  1. In the Reload Web Console enable access to a backup that the user's deleted mail is known to be in.
  2. Log into the GroupWise client as the user and go to File/Open Backup.
  3. Go someplace deep in the user's folder structure
    1. Select an item
    2. Right-click on it and select Restore.
  4. Do this for three items from separate folders.
  5. Return to the online mode and make sure that the items and folder structure restored correctly.
  6. If restored correctly, go to the GroupWise Admin Console
    1. Select the user
    2. Select More dropdown
    3. Click on Restore
  7. GroupWise will restore all items from the restore area to the live system. This will take some time depending on network bandwidth and disk IO, but items will be restored starting immediately. You can watch the progress in the POA log.
